Iraq Oil Report

One week before Iraq is set to announce the winners of development contracts for six oil and two gas fields, that very attempt to boost oil production – and needed revenues – in Iraq is among the targets Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani must carry.

Erbil, 14 June (AKnews) – KRG natural resources minister Ashti Hawrami said more oil companies want to engage in the Kurdistan Region’s oil sector.

Hawrami said the statements of Iraqi oil minister Hussein Shahristani who considers KRG oil contracts “illegal” do not reflect the position of the Iraqi government and parliament, KRG online reported.

After the successful export of oil from Kurdish oilfields, six other companies from three different countries showed willingness to work in the region’s oil sector, he added.

The KRG started exporting oil on 1 June. While this move was welcomed by the Iraqi government, nonetheless the oil ministry refuses to acknowledge the contracts between the KRG and international oil ministries.
