BHP six pack
Australian charterer BHP Billiton made the running today grabbing six capesize vessels for mainly China ? Australia round trips.


The charters were at good rates reflecting a particularly strong capesize market but rates were also rising in other sectors.

Capesizes (Index 81.795 USD/dagen)

BHP?s deal for New Asian Shipping?s 179,000-dwt Bright Century (built 1997) set the pace with a rate of $98,500 a day but Zela Shipping?s 172,000-dwt Cape Sun (built 1999) did almost as well on a daily $98,000.

Nisshin Shipping?s 172,000-dwt Nisshin Trader (built 2001) is getting $95,000 a day for a Phillipines ? Australia ? China run while Imarbara Senpaku?s 180,000-dwt Ocean Compass (built 2006) was fixed at $89,000 a day as a Swiss Marine relet for another China ? Australia return voyage.

Brave Maritime?s 180,000-dwt Brave Haralambos (built 2009) is on $88,750 a day and Taiyo Nippon?s 172,000-dwt Cape Camellia (built 2000) gets $83,000. In final position is Hisamoto Kisen?s 170,000-dwt Katerina Warrier (built 1997) on just $68,000 a day.

Navios Maritime?s 180,000-dwt newbuilding Navios Phoenix was fixed out of the berth for one year by Cargill at $38,500 a day.

Noble fixed Carras Hellas? 180,000-dwt Aquamarine (built 2009) for a Europe ? Brazil ? China voyage at $100,000 a day as a SK Shipping relet.

Rio Tinto is paying $60,000 a day for Meandros? 150,000-dwt Coppersmith (built 1995) for a China ? Australia round trip.

Kleimar fixed the 166,000-dwt Cape Mercury (built 1997) as a Cargill relet for a Brazil ? China voyage at $48.50 a tonne.

Panamaxes (Index 33.614 USD/dagen)


Glencore secured Alpha Tankers & Freighters 73,000-dwt Alpha Effort (built 1999) for two year trading at $19,250 a day.

Deiulemar fixed a couple of panamaxes for 12 months trading at reasonably similar rates paying $26,000 a day for Mitsubishi Ore?s 76,000-dwt Torm Antwerp (built 2008) and $25,500 a day for Yang Ming?s 81,000-dwt Km Mt Jade (built 2008).

There was also a run of four to six month period charters but at widely spread rates. Kristiana Marine booked K Line?s 77,000-dwt Mitose (built 2008) at $36,000 a day.

Marubeni is paying $34,500 a day for Dryships?s 72,000-dwt Marbella (built 2000) but as a Rizzo-Bottiglierii-De Carlini Armatore relet while PCL fixed Wallem?s 75,000-dwt GH Fortune (built 2002) at $28,500 a day.

Cargill fixed the 74,000-dwt Aeolian Breeze (built 2001) for a Northern Europe to Far East voyage at $44,000 a day.

Undisclosed charterers are paying $42,000 a day for the 70,000-dwt Full Sources (built 1994) to make an Italy ? Gulf of Mexico ? Far East voyage while the 67,000-dwt Despina (built 1993) is getting $38,250 a day plus a ballast bonus of $82,500 a day for a Gulf of Mexico to Far East trip.

Raffles fixed the 64,000-dwt Flag Seaman (built 1987) as a Windrose relet for a Gulf of Mexico to China voyage at $37,500 a day plus a ballast bonus of $775,000.

Oceanvast got the 72,000-dwt Jia Ho (built 1997) for an Australia to China trip for $36,000 a day plus a ballast bonus of $500,000.

Glencore agreed $35,000 a day and a ballast bonus of $725,000 for the 73,000-dwt Uppercourt (built 2005) making a Brazil to South Korea voyage.

The 75,000-dwt Goya (built 2008) is off on double laden leg voyage for Eships from the Middle East via South America to the Far East for $35,000 a day.

Transgrain gets the 75,000-dwt North Friendship (built 1999) for a China ? Australia ? Far East run for the same rate.

The 69,000-dwt Lavadara (built 1996) is to make a South Korea ? Gulf of Mexico to Far East voyage for TTMI for $28,000 a day.

Supramaxes (Index 24.575 USD/dagen)


The JG Goumas controlled 55,000-dwt Fassa (built 2006) was fixed to Dreyfus for three to five months trading at $30,000 a day plus a ballast bonus of $500,000.

Oldendorff fixed the 55,000-dwt Ocean Breeze (built 2006) for three to five months trading for $23,000 a day while Ispahia got the 57,000-dwt Bao Success (built 2009) for the same period for $22,000 a day.

The 47,000-dwt Clean Seas (built 1995) is to make a South America to Mediterranean voyage for Noble for $38,000 a day.

The 57,000-dwt Jin Wan (built 2009) secured $27500 a day from WBC as a Rizzo-Bottiglieri-de Carlini-Armatori relet for an India to Far East voyage.

Bagadiya Brothers are paying $26,500 a day for the 54,000-dwt Marie Paule (built 2009) making an India ? China voyage.
