754 SUV and Truck Sales Make Year End U-Turn in Georgia Save Email Print

A | A | A Car dealers say that with gas prices peaking at $4 a gallon
earlier this year, the sale of economy cars doubled...leaving
notorious gas guzzlers sitting on sales lots.
But with the the price of gas finally favoring motorists...more
drivers are back to buying the bigger cars and trucks.
"But what has really come back is the truck business with us, it did
slow down a lot when gas prices got as high as four dollars last
spring and summer...it's not completely where it was but its made a
big comeback," said Jack Strayhorn, a Valdosta car salesman.
Car dealers say that while overall sales are still down, smaller car
sales have particularly plummeted because first time buyers, like
recent college graduates, are not qualifying for car loans.
South Georgia car sales representatives say the recent spike in truck
sales can also be attributed to the lifestyle choices of
Georgians..with more people buying trucks to accomodate their
outdoors activities that include hunting and fishing
