TAMPA, Fla. (Nov. 25, 2013) - WellCare Health Plans, Inc., (NYSE: WCG) today announced that it has named Dr. Robert L. M. Hilliard Jr. state president of Illinois, effective November 18. He will lead WellCare's Medicare Advantage business, its subsidiary, Harmony Health Plan's Medicaid business and growth initiatives in the state. Dave Reynolds, WellCare's region president for Conn., Ill., Mo., N.J., N.Y. and Ohio, previously led efforts in Illinois.
"Bobby's strong background in Medicare and Medicaid health care programs, and his executive leadership and clinical experience will be an asset as we continue to partner with the state of Illinois, providers and communities to deliver quality, cost-effective health care solutions to our members throughout the state," said Reynolds.
"WellCare's dedication to continuous improvements in quality and access, and its focus on serving some of the most vulnerable populations in Illinois are critical to efficiently deliver coordinated care where it is needed most," said Hilliard. Prior to joining WellCare, Hilliard was the chief operating officer for UnitedHealthcare's Community Plan in Texas. Before that, he served as chief medical officer for Molina Healthcare of Texas, and the regional medical director of western commercial markets for Humana in Texas. Hilliard also has experience leading SmartChoice, a health sciences start-up, and running an OB/GYN practice.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Hilliard has served on the board of directors for Legacy Community Health Services, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center in Houston, since 2007. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
As of Sept. 30, 2013, WellCare serves approximately 145,000 Medicaid, 14,000 Medicare Advantage and 23,000 Medicare Prescription Drug plan members in Illinois.
