Capesize climb

Rates for large bulk carriers appear to be continuing their recent recovery although in a notably thin market.

But the panamax sector was today flat and and supramax rates seem to again be in modest decline although there is more activity at this end of the market.

Capesizes

Rio Tinto fixed Bonyad Qeshm’s recently acquired 151,000-dwt Mehr Enterprise (built 1990) at $50,000 a day for a Malaysia – Australia – China voyage. The vessel was formerly the Japanese controlled Lady Madonna.

Panamaxes

National Navigation’s 70,000-dwt Wadi Alkarnak (built 1997) was fixed to undisclosed charterers for three to five months trading at $28,000 a day.

Dryships’ 75,000-dwt Sonoma (built 2001) also got a $28,000 a day rate from Eitzen but for a Netherlands – Baltic – Mediterranean excursion.

Taiship’s 77,000-dwt Priscilla Venture (built 2008) is to make a Taiwan – Australia round trip for China Steel Express for $22,000 a day.

Efnav’s 75,000-dwt Avax (built 2006) had to settle for $16,000 a day for an India – South Africa – continent trip for undisclosed charterers.

Supramaxes

Meridian fixed Santoku Senpaku’s 56,000-dwt Medi Chennai (built 2005) for a Gulf of Mexico to Mediterranean voyage for $28,900 a day.

A couple of recently built Tsuneishi Zhoushan built supramaxes found employment. Orion Bulkers 59,000-dwt Columbia is getting $21,000-dwt from undisclosed charterers for a south east asia to Far East nickel delivery while Cargill is paying $20,000 a day for Kambara Kisen’s 59,000-dwt La Carita to make a Europe via Baltic delivery to west Africa.

Geden Line’s 53,000-dwt Cake (built 2007) is to make an India to China voyage for undisclosed charterers for $21,000 a day.

Grand China fixed Orient Line’s 56,000-dwt Bulk Jupiter for an India – South America – Far East trip for $17,500 a day.

Cargill’s is paying $17,000 a day for Apex Ship Management’s 53,000-dwt Mercury Ocean (built 2008) to make a West Africa – South America – UK continent range voyage.

Undisclosed charterers fixed Jadroplov’s 44,000-dwt Trogir (built 2001) for a China via South East Asia trip to A Singapore – Japan range port for $15,000 a day.
