NS United, the Japanese shipping giant to be formed out of the merger of Nippon Steel Shipping and Shinwa Kaiun, has unveiled the new company a month before it opens for business.

According to information released in Tokyo, the new company will have a combined fleet of 128 ships comprising tankers and bulkers

In total the fleet will weigh in at one million dwt and the new outfit will employ a combined 680 people throughout the group companies.

The fleet will comprise 30 capesize bulkers, 21 panamax, 37 handysize and handymax bulkers, 29 coastal vessels and 11 tankers. The combined fleet also has another 36 bulkers on order including 15 capesize and six panamax bulkers.

Its main areas of business will be iron ore, coal, oil and chemical transportation as well as operating a tramp trade and Japanese coastal operations. Offices will be maintained in London, New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Vietnam.

NS United will operate out of First Square West Tower in the Otemachi district of Japan and begin business from October the first.

A five-man board will be headed by president Shimakawa Keiichiro and vice-president Hiroshi Sugiura.

The company also revealed its new company logo which maintains the blue of Shinwa.

But this time the new logo to depicts stormy waves in the U of the NS United to identify the company as a shipping firm.
