May 3 (Reuters) - Chip equipment maker Kulicke and Soffa Industries reported quarterly results above market estimates as chip makers continued to ramp up capacity, and it projected third-quarter revenue well above expectations.
The company, which makes wire bonding equipment used for making integrated circuits, said it expects third-quarter revenue of $255-$275 million. Analysts on average were looking for $201.3 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
For the quarter ended April 2, revenue rose 35 percent to $206.7 million, above consensus view of $188.3 million.
The Fort Washington, Pennsylvania-based company posted a net income of $39.9 million, or 54 cents a share, compared with $21.2 million, or 28 cents a share, last year. Analysts were expecting 36 cents a share in profit.
